Spots don't appear overnight: they are the result of years of sun exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation, pollution, and the aging process itself. The good news is that the skin has an enormous capacity for regeneration, especially overnight. If you provide it with the right active ingredients consistently, it is possible to achieve a more even and luminous tone.
At LaLuz, we have designed an anti-spot routine that combines some of the most effective ingredients to reduce hyperpigmentation, improve skin texture, and enhance its natural luminosity.
Why do spots appear?
Skin spots are caused by excessive melanin production. This process can be triggered by various factors that, over time, leave a visible mark on the skin:
- Sun and hormones. Solar radiation is the main trigger for spots. Additionally, hormonal changes such as those that occur during pregnancy or menopause can stimulate melanin production and promote the appearance of darker areas.
- Accumulated damage. Over the years, the skin accumulates the effects of oxidative stress, pollution, and ultraviolet radiation. All of this contributes to dulling the skin tone and developing irregular pigmentation.
- Weakened skin barrier. When the skin's protective barrier is compromised, sensitivity and inflammation increase. In response, the skin may produce more melanin, making existing spots more visible or causing new ones to appear.
Understanding how spots form helps to understand why. If you want to lighten spots and achieve an even tone, consistency is the most important factor for achieving results.
Anti-dark spot routine: Night 1 🌙
2. Niacinamide
It works at deeper levels to even tone and strengthen the skin's barrier. Niacinamide treats incipient spots, that is, those that are forming, trying to prevent them from becoming visible.
Anti-blemish routine: Night 2 🌙
1. Glycolic acid
Gently exfoliates the surface layer of the skin to reduce visible spots.
2. Niacinamide
It works at deeper levels to even tone and strengthen the skin barrier. Niacinamide treats nascent blemishes, that is, those that are forming, trying to prevent them from becoming visible.
Benefits of this routine
- Reduces visible spots and prevents the appearance of new ones.
- Evens out skin tone.
- Improves texture and provides more luminosity.
- Promotes cell renewal during the night.
- Increases skin tolerance to depigmenting treatments.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Using too many active ingredients at once. More is not better, and in fact, irritating the skin makes dark spots worse.
- Not alternating nights. Skin needs rest to recover. Follow the routine we've suggested.
- Applying glycolic acid to irritated skin. This can increase inflammation and darken spots.
- Not using sunscreen every day. Sun protection is essential, not just in summer but all year round. Without it, any anti-spot routine loses much of its effectiveness.
- Constantly changing products. Skin needs at least 6 to 8 weeks to show visible results with a treatment.
- Not hydrating enough. Dehydrated skin is more prone to irritation and developing uneven pigmentation.
- Using retinol without soothing or hydrating ingredients. This can reduce skin tolerance and cause redness.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use retinol and glycolic on the same night?
No. Acids cannot be mixed. If you apply both active ingredients on the same night, you will experience irritation. The anti-blemish routine we have designed works because you alternate stimuli: strong renewal (retinol) and superficial renewal (glycolic).
Does niacinamide cause irritation?
No, it's actually one of the most soothing actives. It balances the skin when you use retinol or glycolic.
What if I have sensitive skin?
You can start with less frequency: 2 nights of retinol + niacinamide and 1 night of glycolic + niacinamide. Sensitive skin types can use LaLuz products, but not pure retinol. Also, if this is your case, we recommend starting with a lower concentration glycolic acid. It's not about frequency, but about concentration and purity.
Is it good for melasma?
Yes, but melasma requires consistency and strict sun protection. This routine helps control pigmentation.
Can I use vitamin C in the morning?
Yes, it is ideal for boosting the anti-spot effect and protecting from the sun.
What happens if I get irritated?
Reduce frequency, increase hydration, and prioritize niacinamide. Irritation worsens dark spots, so it must be avoided.
Can I use this routine all year round?
Yes, as long as you maintain daily sun protection.
